Christian Legal Society

The Christian Legal Society was founded in 1961, with the mission of doing justice with the love of God.

Among the objectives of the CLS are to proclaim Jesus as Lord through all we do in the field of law and other disciplines, to provide a means of society, fellowship and nurture among Christian lawyers, to help lawyers integrate faith with their professional lives, to help uphold high standards of legal ethics, and to encourage lawyers to furnish legal services to the poor and needy.

All CLS members subscribe to the following statement of faith.

“Trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior, I believe in:

• One God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
• The deity of our Lord, Jesus Christ, God”s only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; His vicarious death for our sins through which we have eternal life; His bodily resurrection and personal return.
• The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration.
• The Bible as the inspired Word of God.”

Ken Shigley has been a member of the Christian Legal Society since 1974, his first year at Emory Law School. At Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, he has served as an elder, teacher of adult classes, and chairman of committees on stewardship, technology, child development center, and spiritual formation curriculum development.
