Neck Injuries

Neck injuries can be pretty serious. Some folks joke about whiplashes, but the fact is that when you are in a car and are hit from behind, your head snaps back, forward, back again and many times there are muscle strains and ligaments strains. Sometimes they resolve pretty well within a few weeks or months but other times they become chronic. That may be diagnosed as myofascial pain syndrome which was a problem that plagues President Kennedy during his life from war injuries. Now we often have clients that have neck injuries in wrecks that also cause damage to cervical disks. The spine is basically a stack of bones, like this, that is separated by little natural shock absorbers called disks that are structured like a jelly donut. The bread of the donut is the annulus, the jelly is the nucleus pulposus. When that annulus is hurt and the jelly begins to leak out of the donut it can press on nerves an cause pain, numbness, and tingling extending down those nerves, if it is the neck it goes down to the arms and hands. And if that doesn’t resolve through conservative treatment with physical therapy and steroid injections over a period of months, doctors will often recommend surgery which can be a serious procedure. Basically they make an incision in the front of the neck, they dig out the bad disks, and they replace it with either bone or an artificial disk. Some people go back to their normal activities without a lot of problems but even then there is some degree of permanent impairment. Other times, the outcome is not as good. Now we have represented a lot of people who had these injuries and these surgeries. If we can help you give us a call.

On May 22, 2018, former State Bar of Georgia president Ken Shigley will be a candidate for election to the Georgia Court of Appeals. The only other candidate is Ken Hodges, a former Dougherty County District Attorney. Ken Hodges was the Democratic Party nominee for Attorney General in 2010.

Client Reviews

Attorney Ken Shigley - did his lawyer thing - and increased my "take home amount" of settlement - the amount after paying core medical & legal fees - by over 3000% (three thousand percent) more than what some other law firms could do. He and courtney (his assistant) were like family! True blessings.

My mother was a passenger in a horrible car crash in Georgia when the car in which she was passenger was hit by an ex-convict who had no insurance, and who later died from a cocaine overdose. When I learned of mom's injury, I immediately flew in from California. As I work in Silicon Valley, I...

After my parents were killed in a tractor truck accident on December 2013, he fought hard against the insurance companies to help my brother, sister, and I. He was honest and always available to answer any questions I had. Ken went out of his way to meet with my brother and I while on vacation in...
